A-AAGORA & CLIMAREST Joint Welcome event for Associated Regions

A-AAGORA hosts General Assembly and first face-to-face Associated Regions Meeting in Málaga, in joint event with CLIMAREST

From October 22nd to 24th 2024, A-AAGORA holds its General Assembly and AR (Associated Regions) Meeting in Málaga, Spain. The event brings together A-AAGORA’s project partners, representatives from the 7 AR, and members of sibling project, CLIMAREST, for three days of fruitful discussions and collaborative sessions.

Key Goals and Highlights

The central aim of the meeting is to strengthen the involvement of the ARs in A-AAGORA’s Living Lab process and to deepen collaboration with CLIMAREST, fostering the development of sustainable ocean solutions. The event also provides a platform for knowledge sharing, co-developing a transition roadmap, and exploring pathways for scaling up successful initiatives across diverse regional and international contexts.

  • Day 1: A-AAGORA and the 7 ARs gather for internal discussions on addressing conditions for effective implementation and mainstreaming of Living Lab solutions.
  • Day 2: The joint sessions between A-AAGORA, CLIMAREST and their ARs will focus on exchanging experiences, learning from each other’s regional contexts, and identifying potential for scaling up innovative solutions.
  • Day 3: The final day will include a discussion on lessons learned and strategies for replication across regions, followed by an insightful field trip to one of CLIMAREST’s replication sites in the afternoon, which is open to all participants.

Looking Forward

The A-AAGORA and CLIMAREST projects, both funded under the EU Mission “Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030,” and part of BlueMissionAA, are critical in advancing efforts to protect and restore marine ecosystems and boost coastal restoration across Europe. These projects focus on implementing innovative, scalable solutions that promote the sustainable management of oceans and waters, a vital component of the EU’s broader sustainability and climate resilience goals. By engaging Associated Regions (AR) in Living Lab processes, A-AAGORA and CLIMAREST drive regional collaboration and knowledge-sharing to address unique challenges and ensure tailored solutions that can be effectively mainstreamed across diverse settings.

This joint event in Málaga will play a key role in strengthening collaboration between the two projects. It will allow regional stakeholders and project partners to exchange ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and co-develop a transition roadmap for scaling up sustainable solutions. This collaborative effort aligns with the EU Mission’s goals of restoring marine biodiversity, reducing pollution, and improving climate resilience, contributing to the Mission’s ambitious target of safeguarding ocean and water ecosystems by 2030.
