A-AAGORA DEMO-PT book published: a synthesis of the transformative innovation journey in the Ria de Aveiro
The book of the Portuguese Demonstrator (DEMO-PT) of the A-AAGORA project is now available, bringing together and systematising the work carried out in Portugal’s Central Region, with a particular focus on the Ria de Aveiro.
The book was publicly launched on 22 April 2026 at the University of Aveiro, during the final DEMO-PT event, which brought together institutional partners, researchers, stakeholders involved in the Living Lab, and representatives of regional and national organisations working on ocean sustainability and regional development.
The launch took place as part of the presentation of the main objectives and results achieved by DEMO-PT. Participants in the event included Ana I. Lillebø, Scientific Coordinator of A-AAGORA; Celina Ramos de Carvalho, representing the Portuguese Demonstrator; Filipe Teles, Pro-Rector of the University of Aveiro for Interinstitutional Cooperation in the areas of Regional Development and Urban Policy; and Paulo Jorge Ferreira, Rector of the University of Aveiro.
Entitled “Transformative Innovation in the Ria de Aveiro: Contributions from Portugal’s Central Region to the EU Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030’ — Science, public policies and citizen participation in action”, the book presents the DEMO-PT experience as a case of transformative innovation applied to integrated coastal management.
The publication summarises the demonstrator’s journey, from the Living Lab methodology and co-creation processes with stakeholders and citizens to the solutions developed and tested in the territory. Topics covered include ecosystem and seagrass restoration, coastal erosion resilience, biodiversity in port areas, decarbonisation, marine litter reduction, participatory processes, and action plans with the potential to be replicated in other coastal territories.
