A day with a marine biologist – A-AAGORA in schools

On December 28, 2024, the DEMO PT team from the Universidade de Aveiro brought the exciting world of marine biology to the Rio Novo do Príncipe school in Cacia, as part of the A-AAGORA – Atlantic Arctic Agora Horizon Europe project.

🔬 Researcher Daniel Crespo captivated students from the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education by presenting the profession of Marine Biologist, sparking their curiosity and answering their insightful questions.
🧑‍🔬 After the engaging discussion, students got hands-on experience exploring:

-Fieldwork equipment like diving gear, mud boots, and samplers.
-Biological samples such as bivalves, gastropods, and polychaetes collected from the intertidal areas of the estuarine systems.
This interactive session gave students a glimpse into the daily life of a marine biologist while reinforcing the importance of ocean literacy.

♻️ This initiative is part of the A-AAGORA project’s ongoing mission to promote awareness about marine litter reduction. It builds on earlier activities like the art workshop with marine litter and the visit to ECOMARE, demonstrating the project’s commitment to fostering a deeper connection with our oceans.

👏 A big thank you to the students and teachers who made this day unforgettable! Together, we’re shaping the next generation of ocean stewards.
